It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Dr. Robert Duffy, a beloved pediatric dermatologist who dedicated his life to the care and well-being of children and families across the Philadelphia and southern New Jersey region.
Dr. Duffy passed away unexpectedly, leaving a profound void in the medical community and in the hearts of his patients, colleagues, friends, and loved ones. Dr. Duffy’s journey into medicine began in central New Jersey, where he was raised and developed an early interest in science and healing.
He moved to Philadelphia to attend La Salle University, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology and setting the foundation for what would become an exemplary medical career.
He went on to obtain his medical degree at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, New Jersey, a place that nurtured both his intellect and his compassionate spirit.
Dr. Duffy remained at Cooper University Hospital for his dermatology residency, where he stood out not only for his clinical skill but also for his empathy and leadership.
His passion for treating children led him to further specialize in pediatric dermatology at the prestigious Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he became a trusted and admired figure among patients and peers alike.
Most recently, he returned to southern New Jersey to care for patients at HMGS Dermatology, bringing with him the highest standards of care and a warm, calming presence that put families at ease.
Beyond his medical career, Dr. Duffy was a man of many passions. He was an avid cook and baker, always eager to try recipes from around the globe. His curiosity and zest for life extended into hiking and yoga, which he found both grounding and rejuvenating.
He thrived on exploration and adventure, embracing the motto, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Whether it was learning a new language, experimenting with unfamiliar cuisines, or taking part in traditional dances abroad, he immersed himself wholeheartedly in the richness of other cultures.
Dr. Duffy’s legacy is not only defined by his exceptional academic and clinical achievements but also by the countless lives he touched with his kindness, curiosity, and commitment to service.
He had a unique ability to connect with others, making children feel safe and parents feel heard. Colleagues often spoke of his humility, his tireless dedication to improving patient care, and his joy in mentoring the next generation of healthcare providers.
Those who knew Dr. Duffy will remember him not only as a skilled physician but also as a vibrant, compassionate, and thoughtful human being.
