The Chattanooga community is mourning the sudden loss of Shannon Johnson, a cherished coach and mentor at the Adrenaline Volleyball Club, who tragically passed away in an accident on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Her untimely death has left a profound void in the lives of the athletes she guided and the broader community she touched.
For the past two years, Coach Johnson dedicated herself to nurturing young athletes, instilling in them not only the skills of volleyball but also the values of teamwork, perseverance, and integrity. Her coaching extended beyond the court, empowering young women to lead with strength and confidence.
Colleagues and players remember Shannon as a radiant presence—faith-driven, compassionate, and uplifting. Her unwavering commitment to her faith and her community was evident in every interaction. She made everyone feel seen, heard, and valued, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.
Shannon is survived by her beloved son, Kai Johnson, who was the light of her life. She also leaves behind her parents, Robert and Diane Johnson of Chattanooga, TN; her sister, Jessica Johnson; her nephews, Caleb and Noah; and a large network of extended family, teammates, and friends who are grieving this profound loss.
In the wake of her passing, tributes have poured in from across the volleyball community and beyond. Former players and fellow coaches have shared stories of Shannon’s kindness, her tireless dedication, and the positive impact she had on countless lives. Her legacy is one of service, encouragement, and unwavering love.
A memorial service to celebrate Shannon’s life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Red Bank Baptist Church, beginning at 3:00 p.m., with visitation at 1:30 p.m. The service will honor her passion, her faith, and her enduring influence within the Chattanooga and Adrenaline Volleyball communities.
In honor of her legacy, donations are welcomed to the Kai Johnson Education Fund, established to support her son’s future. Though her life was cut short, Coach Shannon Johnson leaves behind a lasting legacy of purpose, love, and light. She will forever remain in the hearts of those privileged to know her.hannon.
