The community of Homer, Louisiana, is mourning the sudden passing of Suzanne Newell, who died unexpectedly on May 12, 2025, at the age of 68. A lifelong resident of Claiborne Parish, Suzanne was known for her unwavering faith, deep compassion, and steadfast commitment to her family and community.
Suzanne is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Thomas Newell of Homer; their children: Marcus Newell (Kendra) of Shreveport, Diane Rollins (Bryan) of Ruston, and Carla Benson (Michael) of Bossier City; her sister, Ellen Parker of Homer; and six cherished grandchildren: Isaiah, Taylor, Noah, Ava, Elise, and Camden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mae Harper, and her brother, Donald Harper.
A public celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Homer, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Gerald Thomas will officiate the service, and interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Newell family requests that donations be made in Suzanne’s memory to the Homer Women’s Shelter or the Claiborne Parish Library Foundation—organizations that Suzanne passionately supported throughout her life.
Suzanne Newell’s legacy is one of love, faith, and selfless service. Her influence in Homer will be felt for generations to come, and her memory will forever be a guiding light to all who knew her..
